The Public Relations Committee (PRC) was created as a successor of the former Public Relations Working Group, which ceased to exist. In that very moment there was a great need in the organisation of an internal body whose work would be dedicated to managing the public relations of AEGEE. The PRC is supposed to be a supporting body, mainly offering services like general PR assistance, graphic design, etc, but it can also carry out its own initiatives. The main difference compared to the former PRWG is a better integration into the workflow at the European level. The PRC is not a learning platform in the first place, but a gathering of people with big interest in PR, who have already gained some experience.
The PRC was established in October 2010, during Agora Istanbul, at the initiative of Michael Makowiecki, former Communications Director of AEGEE-Europe, for the term 2010/2011. The Public Relations Committe is a body of AEGEE-Europe responsible for supporting the Network in the field of Public Relations and communication. It is coordinated by the Speaker Team, which consists of a Speaker, a Vice-Speaker responsible for Human Resources and an appointed member of the Comité Directeur.The PRC consists of several subgroups and task forces, all of which are responsible for tasks related to certain fields. The PRC’s subgroups are the following:
- Design subgroup – responsible for creating logos for projects/Working Groups, designing PR materials, publications, website templates and other graphics and videos
- Consulting subgroup – responsible for developing PR strategies, planning campaigns and assisting Committees/Working Groups/projects/locals in their execution
One of the most well-known achievements on the PRC is the establishment of an online magazine for AEGEE, called The AEGEEan (http://www.aegee.org/magazine). However, the PRC has also been working on a set of communication guidelines for the whole Network, supporting the work of the Comité Directeur with the creation of PR materials, as well as designing PR materials for projects and Working Groups.

The members of the PRC are creative and enthusiastic individuals, interested in media, journalism, design and other related fields. The PRC is supposed to act as a service provider towards the Network. In order to do so, it requires members that already have a decent experience in terms of anything related to PR. That is why people that would just like to learn a little about PR without having their own prior experience will unfortunately not find a right place for them in the PRC.
On the other hand, the PRC welcomes any member who is new to AEGEE, but has already gathered some PR related experience. For the PRC, having experience in AEGEE as such is secondary, but an experienced member would easily understand the structure of the association and the way it works, therefore being able to serve as a consultant and design PR strategies and campaigns for the Network. Furthermore, an experienced member would also have better teamwork skills and would be able to coordinate PRC projects and become a task force or project leader. After gaining some experience within the PRC, this type of members can also run for a position in the Speaker Team.
High level members posses extensive knowledge about the association and the problems it has to struggle with. This gives them the opportunity to contribute with very conceptual work, develop initiatives that will have an effect on the whole organisation, work on ambitious projects like a PR database or the visual identity and also work as consultants. Furthermore, they can easily run for the Speaker Team.
Besides the board, the PRC also consists of regular members and project/task force leaders.
Task force or project leader:
Appointed by the Speaker Team for one term, until next elections, or in case of a project leader, until the end of the project. Needs PR-related and PRC experience and needs to be a member of the PRC.
Apply via an online application form, which is afterwards evaluated by the Vice-Speaker. Membership does not expire, but may need to be refreshed.
The Speaker and the Vice-Speaker are elected by the members of the PRC after each Agora, until the next one.

Amount of work required:
If an AEGEE member considers joining the PRC, the fact that the Speaker Team requires about 8 hours of work per week should be taken into consideration, while being a task force or project leader will require about 5 hours. As for the regular members, it depends on the assigned task. Members can be idle or active (when a task is assigned to them).[/column]
